One of the most innovative, if not the most innovative, race event in the Philippines is back. From the Champion Chip in 2009, to the 100% PET bottle-made singlets in 2010 (plus being the first to stage a race event in the Makati business district), Globe now offers the participating runners to choose which foundation or institution will benefit from their own wallets.
The beneficiaries:
- Gawad Kalinga - building communities with a culture of caring and sharing. They aim to end poverty for 5 million families by 2024.
- Habitat for Humanity - the recipient of the last two Globe runs, Habitat for Humanity will spend your money to build houses for our public school teachers.
- Haribon Foundation - dedicated to the conservation of our natural resources.
- Virlanie Foundation - they aim to bring the smile back to our street children by providing home, education and the opportunity to become responsible and self-sufficient contributors to the society.
D-Tag will be used to track your time throughout the race. D-Tag is an electroic tag attached to your shoe (instructions on how to use it is included in the race kit) that records the time at which you cross the start line, the finish line and several split times in between.
Let your friends and family track your whereabouts on the race
Another good feature of this Globe race is that you can have your family and friends know where exactly in the race you are right on your Facebook Wall. Right! You just install an application to help the tracking system display and post your whereabouts on your Facebook Wall. Once this is done, it will update your race status and finish times on real time while you are out there running.
Run through Makati CBD!
Participating runners on the 15 and 21 kilometer races will also get their chance to run through the central business district of Makati. From the Bonifacio Global City which starts from the 7th Avenue, runners will run over the Buendia flyover to Makati.
There they will run across the popular streets of Paseo de Roxas, Makati Avenue and Ayala Avenue. 21Km runners will go all the way to Gil Puyat Avenue towards Pasong Tamo and the train railway before they make a U-turn back to The Fort.
Ease of Registration
To my delight, registration on a race event has never been this easy. I went to Greenbelt 3 Cinema Lobby last Wednesday night to register for the 10Km race. Manned with several competent and friendly crews, the registration was smooth and highly organized.
I get to a computer portal to type and provide my personal details and race category, print it on a printer nearby, pay on the cashier station, get my receipt and present it to the fitting area for my singlet.
All I have to do now is train for my race. (Now it becomes a little more complicated. Haha.)
